Abstract
The SOAR (Summer Orientation and Registration) program began in 1971 after the hire of a new registrar and a wish to simplify the new student registration process in September. These summer SOARs happened throughout the 1970s. In the 1980s, the acronym stayed the name but the program named changed to Student Orientation, Acquaintance and Registration program. By 1991, the name changed again to Student Orientation, Advising and Registration program. The SOAR program was managed by various university units during its existence, including Admissions, Student Life and finally, the Center for Academic Resources.
