Abstract

This box contains 2 black and white photographs of the University of Denver Football Team. Both photos were donated by Mike Trimble, as his grandfather Ezra Orren Preston is pictured in both photographs and was the one to collect them. Ezra O. Preston graduated from DU in 1917 and played football all four years as well as basketball for a year or two.

The first photo is labeled "Champions of Northern Colorado [19]13." In this photo, Ezra O. Preston is in the back row and is second from the right. The photo displays twelve (12) players from the DU football team. The front row of players are in a crouching stance that is typical of football players at the start of a play, and all the men in back row are standing, posed with their hands on their hips. On the back of this photo, Ezra Preston signed his name "E. O. Preston".

The second photo is unlabeled but believed to be of the team in 1916 as Mike Trimble recalls his grandfather Ezra speaking highy of his senior year football team with a fond rememberance. During this year, Ezra Preston said that the team had a good season and won the last game in a spectacular fashion, leading to Ezra and another player being unofficially named co-MVPs of the game/season. In this photograph, the team is sitting and standing in front of the field goal posts posing for the picture. Ezra Preston is pictured in the back row, he is the fifth (5th) person from the left. On the back of the photograph the names of all the team members pictured are written down.
