Abstract

This box contains a collection of jewelry that belonged to Joy Burns. There are three (3) pins, six (6) rings, one (1) bracelet, two (2) necklaces, two (2) cufflinks, and eight (8) necklace pendants.

The three pins are the following. One is a small gold pin of Joy Burn's initials with small diamonds in the J and B. The second pin is also gold and has all three of Joy Burn's initials: JSB. The last pin is a large DU logo that is gold and has red gems inside the D and U.

The six rings include the following. One ring is a gold Denver Broncos Superbowl Ring from 1997 that is inscribed with "Burns" on the side. The next ring is silver and celebrates the University of Denver's Women's Gymnastics team that made it to the NCAA Championship Finals in 2019. This ring is also inscribed with "Burns." The next ring is a large gold ring with many gems that celebrates the University of Denver's Men's Lacrosse team who were the National Champions in 2015. This ring is also inscribed with "Burns." The next ring is a smaller gold ring with transluscent blue stones and a woven pattern of diamonds. The next ring is a smaller silver ring with two diagonal stripes of diamonds. The last ring is a medium-sized silver ring with two stripes of diamonds, and this ring has an inscription on the inside that says "Joy to Frank. 5-22-60. 'My Wonderful One.'"

The bracelet is a gold chain with diamonds in between each curved gold design. This bracelet is broken and has a few links that have come off.

The two necklaces consist of the following. One has a silver chain with a large silver pendant covered in gems that celebrates the University of Denver's Men's Ice Hockey team's 2017 NCAA National Championship win. The back of the pendant says "Joy Burns 2017," one side of the pendant says "Stay in the moment," and the other side of the pendant says "Proscess" which had become the team's mantra with the misspelling. The other necklace has a silver chain and a smaller silver pendant with gems that says "Denver. NCAA Championship Finals" without a year indicated on the pendant.

The two cufflinks are a matching pair. Both are gold with a rim of red gems. On the face of the cufflinks, they say "Qu'hier que demain" and have a diamond cross and red gem bar. "Qu'hier que demain" is a French phrase from a love poem that translates to "More than yesterday, less than tomorrow."

The eight necklace pendants include the following. The first pendant matches the cufflinks described above and is a large gold pendant with a rim of red gems and the phrase "Qu'hier que demain" on it. The next pendant is gold and has two three-dimensional wedding bells on the front along with the words "A Day to Remember". On the back of this pendant, it says "Frank, Joy. May 22, 1960." The next pendant is in the shape of a gold heart and has a three-dimensional 13 on the front along with blue gems made to look like stars. On the back of this pendant, it says "FLB, Joy, Hollsdilly. 8-13-58." The next pendant is made of a gold key topped with the shape of a house and the statue of Victory. The next two pendants are matching, and they are both gold castles that say "My home is my castle." On the back of these pendants you can see that there is a physical house key as part of both these pendants. The next pendant is gold and has a former Redhawk logo (DU had a new mascot, Ruckus the Red-Tailed Hawk, from 1999-2006) in the center with the year 2005, and on the edges of the pendant it says "NCAA National Champions" to celebrate the University of Denver's Men's Ice Hockey championship win in 2005. The last pendant is gold and covered in gems; in the center it says "Denver" and on the top and bottom it says "National Champions," but a year is not included on the pendant.
