Abstract

Box contains legal documentation of Ritchie's properties such as grant deeds, insurance, bargain and grant deeds, leases, tax agreements, contracts, and correspondence. Most of the documents relate to Ritchie's donation of land to the University of Denver in 1994. This donation was the Middle Ranches property in Colorado; this property consisted of 20,000 acres of ranch land worth at least $15-million. After the donation, the property was sold piecemeal by the University of Denver to various buyers to generate funds for the University.

From the Collection:

This collection contains materials related to Daniel L. Ritchie, the 16th Chancellor of the University of Denver, including inauguration materials, newspaper clippings, publications and speeches by Ritchie, administrative files, photo albums, video tapes, leather bookmarks and a map of the Colorado Territory (1876).

Arrangement

Some of the materials in this box were originally housed in the U184 DU Real Estate Collection. These materials have been moved to this collection as they pertain to the property donation made by Daniel Ritchie and the legal proceedings of this transfer.
