Container 23: Civil War Textiles, 1864

Box contains two professionally conserved textiles pressed between corrugated polypropelene sheets: a linen towel and a "soldier's housewife," or sewing kit, accompanied by two informative cards. Both were carried by Engelmann's great grandfather Sergeant Henry Wood, 136th Regiment, Illinois Volunteers, in Sherman's 1864 Georgia Campaign.
