Biographical / Historical
Winifred Harris began her formal dance training in her hometown of Denver with Cleo Parker Robinson and also studied with such luminaries as Donald McKayle, Katherine Dunham, James Truitte, Claude Thompson, and Bella Lewitzky. Harris studied at the California Institute of the Arts and returned to dance for 10 seasons with Cleo. She is currently the Associate Artistic Director for Cleo Parker Robinson Dance. She founded Winifred R. Harris’ Between the Lines where she choreographed for the company as well as for musicals, stage plays, fashion shows, and other dance companies. She founded Your Souls Movement, a studio in Denver, and is co-developer of Dance for Schools, a curriculum for public education taught in high school programs throughout the US. She was nominated for the Lester Horton Choreography Award, the Alpert Award, and received the Mayor’s Award for Community Engagement.
