David Hastings Moore, 1880 October - 1889 June
Abstract
This series will contain the Chancellor's records of David Hastings Moore (1838-1915). In 1880, Moore became the president of Colorado Seminary, which became the University of Denver. Subsequently, he was the 1st Chancellor of the University of Denver from October 1880 until June 1889. He also served as the pastor of Evans Memorial Chapel at this time, assigned to this role in 1883.
The Colorado Seminary had been founded in 1864 by Colorado Govenor John Evans, but struggled in its early years and briefly closed its doors. The school was reopened in 1880 under Chancellor David Hastings Moore. Moore was later made a bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1990.
