Abstract

Silver loving cup presented to Dr. Adolph Zederbaum at the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society (JCRS) on January 29, 1909, on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Zederbaum was treasurer of the JCRS. The loving cup has two raised rings of flowers and handles with leaf patterns and measures 22.5 centimeters wide and 22 centimeters high.

This series includes religious, medical, printing, administrative, trophies, and other types of objects used at the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society. Examples of objects are Torah scrolls, embroidered towels made by a patient, a Hebrew Corona typewriter, printing cases and type, and a chess trophy.

Inscription and Marks

Inscribed on the front of the cup: Presented to Dr. Adolph Zaderbaum On his Sixtieth Anniversary January Twenty ninth, Nineteen hundred nine From his admiring Friends.'' The back of the cup is engraved with three crowns and the dates ''1849'' and ''1909'' between the crowns. Above and below the center crown are engraved words in Hebrew that translate to: ''There are three crowns, but the crown of a good name surpasses them all.''
