Oral History Interview with J. Harold Saks, 1977 June 6
Abstract
J. Harold Saks was the first director of the Anti-Defamation League Mountain States Regional Office, and in this oral history he discusses the Jewish community in Colorado, primarily focusing on the 1920s through the 1940s. He describes anti-Semitism in Colorado during this period, and he details the activities of Jewish organizations and religious leaders, including the formation of the Mountain States chapter of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). In addition, Saks talks about the experiences of other minorities in Colorado at the time and describes the ADL's collaboration with other minority leaders to oppose discrimination against all groups. Saks also discusses the political climate in Colorado and the United States as it affected Jews.

Scope and Contents
Series 1 consists of the recorded oral histories of individuals and, occasionally, groups of individuals representing Jewish organizations. Many of the interviewees are descendants of early Colorado Jewish pioneers or were Jewish newcomers to the state in the beginning of the 20th century. The interviews document Jewish history in Colorado in the 20th century.
