Biographical / Historical

Chris Kermiet is a Denver native. His earliest memories are of the dances in the old Grange Hall on Lookout Mountain where his father, Paul Kermiet, and mother, Pauline Kermiet, ran a summer folk dance camp called Lighted Lantern. Chris studied composition at CU and began attending community dances with his sister Paula. He filled in as a caller one night and have now been calling for over 45 years. He serves as a cuer for contras, Appalachian big circle dances, English country dances, and Celtic ceilidhs. Chris prefers to work with a live band and calls for community dances sponsored by Colorado Friends of Old Time Music and Dance (CFOOTMAD). In 2000, Chris received the Heritage Award/Artist Fellowship from the Colorado Council on the Arts.
