Abstract

Professor Howe's diary for 1916 recounts his brief weather and astronomical observations, administrative and teaching activities at the University of Denver, entertainment of visitors to the Chamberlin Observatory, participation in events in University Park and elsewhere in Denver, his family and religious life. Includes special mention of: Colorado becoming a dry state on January 1; the closing of the University Park Post Office on January 16, with... subsequent delivery of first class letters by foot carrier and other mail by wagon; his 14-year old son Ernest's discovery of girls, and their various conversations on that topic.
