Abstract
Black and white photograph of (from left to right) Dr. Elemer nagy, genevieve Warner, Michael Bondon and James pease rehearse for the 1952 Central City production of 'The Marriage of Figaro.' Image can also be found in text 'The Theater of Dreams:The Glorious Central City Opera Celebrating 75 years.' Caption reads: 'Dr. Elemer Nagy provided acting direction during a rehearsal of the 1952 production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. Nagy believed that since opera is theater, it has to be acted as well as sung. Nagy directs and also designed the sets and costumes for the production. Expert in all areas of opera production, he has studied acting, directing, lighting, and design in Vienna and his native Hungary. A review of the comic opera noted: “Dr. Nagy has a genius for the baroque, for brightness, gust, elegance, and charm. Everything about the production seemed to laugh.” Nagy directed for Central City from the late 1940s to the late ‘50s.'
