Abstract

Black and white photograph of the chairs in the interior of the hall of the Opera House. Photograph can also be found in 'Central City Opera; Looking Back Over Sixty Year 1932-1992' caption reads: In the early years, the interior featured sturdy hickory chairs (now cushioned), and a center aisle which no longer exists. This view shows John Massman's ceiling frescoes before the 1987 restoration. '

Inscription and Marks

Typed and in envelope with image: 'Stage of the old Opera House at Central City, looking very much as it did when the building was erected in 1878, by popular subscription among the gold miners. In 1932, when the Play festivals began, the historic theater was reopened after many years of darkness, and the building was restored, inside and out. In 1940, some 23, 000 persons saw 'The Bartered Bride' in this Opera House.'
