Abstract

Peter Hoyt Dominick (1915-1981) served Colorado in the United States Congress from January 3, 1961 until January 3, 1975, first as a Representative from the 2nd Congressional District (1961-1963), then as a United States Senator (1963-1975). Throughout his legislative career, Dominick was an advocate for the decentralization of power from the federal government and promoted individual and civil rights. As a member of both the House and the Senate Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs, he worked on legislation that dealt with important issues to Western states including water reclamation, exploration and use of mineral resources and protection of wilderness areas.
