Abstract

Senator Peter H. Dominick (R-Colo.) delivers a speech to the attendees of the Rural Electrification Administration (REA) meeting in Durango, Colorado on September 27, 1963. He discusses issues of interest to the group including competition with private utilities, government financing of the REA, the controversy over the interest rates of REA loans using taxpayer funds and the future of electric cooperatives. Dominick's speech is followed by remarks from several other attendees including David A. Hamil, former Speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives and former Administrator of the Rural Electrification Administration; Archie Toner, President of the La Plata Electric Association Board of Directors and Hugh E. Chastain, General Manager of the La Plata Electric Association. Sen. Dominick also answers questions from members of the audience.
