Biographical / Historical
Solomon Nunes Carvalho was of Portuguese decent and grew up in a traditional Orthodox Jewish home. He became an accomplished artist and daguerreotypist. Colonel John C. Fremont invited Carvalho to accompany him on his expedition across the Rocky Mountains. Carvalho wrote about the five-month journey and later published the memoir Incidents of Travel and Adventure in the Far West.
