Biographical / Historical

Phi Lambda Upsilon was founded in 1899 at the University of Illinois and was the first honor society dedicated to scholarship in a single discipline, chemistry. The University of Denver Kappa Chapter was installed in 1912, but is no longer active on campus. Members are elected by the chapters on the basis of their academic achievement and promise. Honorary membership is an honor given by the organization to chemists of national or international reputation and is voted on by the chapters.

Scope and Contents

Collection is arranged by date and is mostly comprised of meeting minutes and correspondence from the chapter secretary from 1940-1962. There are also membership cards from the 1940, membership lists, publications from Phi Lambda Upsilon, constitutions, ritual materials, songs, and petitions from other chapters kept for reference.

Arrangement

Multiple series arranged in Box 1. Unlikely to accrue more materials since charter was withdrawn and no longer active on campus.
