Abstract

Collection contains the records of the Phi Alpha Literary Society established on University of Denver campus in 1881 and active at least through 1924. Records includes meeting minutes, a book of reports and memorabilia items through 1910. Phi Alpha Literary Society also maintained a member library, a catalogue of which is contained in this collection.

Biographical / Historical

The Phi Alpha Literary Society was established in 1881 and was active on campus at least through 1924. According to the the 1917 Kynewisbok student yearbook, the Phi Alpha Literary Society was founded for, "the purpose of literary training and appreciation of the best literature." The society held an annual haystack ride and annual banquet, in addition to regular member meetings.

Records include a member library catalogue, a book of reports (1882-1898), meeting minutes (1881-1898), a cigar silk banner (c. 1910), one event invitation (undated) and two banquet menus/programs (1891 and 1893).
