Abstract

Dates
- 1979-2013
Biographical / Historical
In 1979, a student group for Latin-Americans calling itself AL0 formed on the DU campus. Shortly after (by 1981), they changed the name to OLA for Organizacion Latino Americana. In 1984, the Hispanic Student Alliance (HSA) was formed on campus with the goal of creating a "liason between the Hispanic students at DU, the Hispanic students at local colleges and the community at large." A constution was drafted in 1992. In 1994, the name was changed to Latino Student Alliance (LSA). The name is now (as of 2023) the Latine Student Alliance to reflect gender neutrality.
According to the group's current mission statement, "The purpose of the Latine Student Alliance will be to create and provide a strong and positive support group for Latine populations on campus through the promotion of cultural awareness and inclusivity. In order to address academic, social, and political issues LSA will provide cultural events, community involvement, advocacy, and student support while cooperating with other groups and communities across campus. In doing so, LSA will promote awareness and unity throughout the University of Denver."
