Abstract

This collection contains the personal research, writing, class materials, and correspondances of the late English professor Gerald Chapman. Chapman was the chair of University of Denver's English department from 1962 to 2003. The vast majority of materials come from Chapman's time at University of Denver and his time as a doctoral student at Harvard University.

Biographical / Historical

Gerald Chapman was born in July of 1927 in Rusk, Texas. Chapman received his Bachelor's degree at University of Texas and his PhD at Harvard University in English. Chapman served as the chair of University of Denver's English department from 1962-2003 and additionally spent some time as the editor for the Denver Quarterly. Chapman passed in June of 2020.

Materials in this collection date approximately between 1963 and 2006. Geographically, the majority of the contents was created in the Denver Metropolitan area and Massachusetts, although Chapman's correspondances come from many areas internationally including Europe and Africa.
