Biographical / Historical

Limmud started in 1980 as a conference for Jewish educators. The goal of the organization was to connect educators with professionla and nonprofessional background. The event grew in popularity and had events in 40 countries and over 100 communities. Limmud first arrived in north America in 2005 in New York. Further events were held in Colorado Georgia, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, California, Arizona, Michigan, and parts of Canada.

For Limmud Colorado, the first conference was in Keystone in 2008. They continued to hold conferences until 2013 when the last one was held in Englewood. Hundreds of people participated of the years and engaged in "cross-communal conversation, Jewish engagement, and Jewish learning".The assets left in Limmud Colorado’s control were distributed to a small group of people who had received Limmud-inspired Jewish learning grants via the Rose Community Foundation or “shown their ability to transform Jewish life in the region, and to foster volunteerism and community engagement,” the announcement said (jta.org).
