Abstract

Charles Murdock Schloss received his engineering degree from the University of Colorado and joined the Lindrooth Engineering company in 1918. His son Charles (Chuck) M. Schloss joined his father at the engineering firm in 1961. He was in the army for five years in various parts of the United States. In 1984, Chuck Schloss founded the Schloss Engineering Company which specialized in water and wastewater equipment design and manufacturing. His daughter Kristy joined the firm and is now CEO and President of the Schloss Engineering Equipment company, an environment equipment design and manufacturing firm. This collection consists of biographical history of the Schloss family that Charles M. Schloss wrote for his children. The collection provides brief ancestral histories, digital photographs of family members and former homes, descriptions of late 19th-century and early 20th-century Denver communities, the development of Schloss Engineered Equipment Co., and personal correspondence.

Biographical / Historical

Charles Murdock “Chuck” Schloss, P.E., born September 26, 1930, in Denver, Colorado, passed away on December 9, 2021, at the age of 91.He graduated from the University of Colorado with a B.S. in engineering physics and did post-graduate work in orbital mechanics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and in astrophysics at the University of Colorado. He founded Schloss Engineered Equipment, Inc., gaining an international reputation as an authority on primary treatment and conveying machinery design. He held 13 patents, was a charter member and on the Advisory Board of the Department of Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences at the University of Colorado at Boulder and was the recipient of the University’s Distinguished Engineering Alumni award.He served the city of Cherry Hills Village for 50 years in a variety of capacities including as City Council member, Deputy Mayor, member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, Manager of Public Works, Police Commissioner and member of the Board of the Sanitation District. He was appointed by the Governor to the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.Charles Schloss Jr. was an Army veteran, serving as an officer for 5 years during and after the Korean War. His passion for building and learning earned him the Society of Military Engineers Gold Medal and a Commendation Medal for his research and development work on guided missiles. He was married to Joann Bock Schloss for 73 years and had three children: Charles Murdock “Chic” Schloss III, Sindi Schloss Romanella, Kristy Anne Schloss.
