Mabel E. Allen Papers
Abstract
Mabel E. (Wickham) Allen (1912-2003) was an alum of Colorado Woman's College (1931) and the University of Denver, Lamont School of Music (1933). This collection contains materials related to Mabel's training and performance as a violinist and her career as a music teacher in Colorado. The materials include textiles, scrapbooks, photographs, memorabilia, diplomas, certificates, books, and other papers.

Biographical / Historical
Mabel Ernestine (Wickham) Allen was born 4 February 1912. She graduated from Decatur County High School in Oberlin, Kansas in 1928. She then attended Colorado Woman's College in Denver, Colorado where she earned an Associate in Arts Diploma in 1931. Mabel continued her education at the University of Denver, Lamont School of Music where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1933. Mabel went on to teach public school music education in Wray, Louisville, Henderson, Boxelder, other small towns, and finally the Aurora School District, all in Colorado. In 1970, Mabel received the Teacher of the Year Award from the Greater Aurora Chamber of Commerce, and, on May 6, 2000, she was honored by the Aurora Symphony Orchestra with a plaque containing a poem by one of her disabled students. This award was for her service in the Aurora Public Schools and in the Aurora Symphony. Mabel was also featured in The Aurora Sentinal newspaper on January 4, 2001. She died on 21 April 2003.
