Anton Kremer Scrapbook

Overview

The Anton Kremer Scrapbook is a collection of post cards. Many of the postcards are simply for display, and include images from Scotland, Ireland, England, and Rome. Some of the postcards depict art work, others the crowned heads of Europe. Finally, there are postcards that were sent to Anton Kremer in Denver, Colorado. These appear to be of family groups and European scenes. Some of the postcards are in German.

Overview Simon Appel was born in Hungary and married Anna Greenwald. Simon Appel began a tailoring business in New York in 1876. His son David Edward Appel went to Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1871 and later moved to Denver. Simon and his other son Jacob came to Denver in 1873. Father and sons began a clothing business called "The Clothing House." In 1874, the name changed to S. Appel and Sons, also called the "Star Clothing House." In 1892, they built a building on 16th and Larimer, called the Appel Building....

Archie Loyd Threlkeld Papers

Overview

Archie Loyd Threlkeld (1889-1967) was Assistant and Deputy Superintendent of the Denver Public Schools from 1921 to 1927 under Jesse H. Newlon. He was Superintendent of the Denver Public Schools for ten years, from 1927 to 1937. While Deputy Superintendent, A. L. Threlkeld directed the curriculum revision program that became internationally known. During the Great Depression, Threlkeld continued the school building program and successfully resisted cutting teachers' salaries.

Overview Margaret (Peggy) Shippen Arnold (1760-1804) was the second wife of Benedict Arnold, with whom he had five children. Though her involvement in her husband's treason against the United States and association with the British is not clear, she did move the family with him to England and then to Canada and finally back to England where they lived in exile.
