Bernie Eisenstat Family Papers

Overview Raymond Stone compiled and edited a book on the Chepelevskys of Slonim, the Eisenstadts of Telechan, and the Vernikovskys of Slonim. He has sketches of various family members and a family tree back to the 1800s in the book. Also in the collection is a folder with a family tree of the Eisenstadt family that goes back to about 1417, a two-page success story by Ray Stone, and a Stone/Eisenstat/Chappell Family roster.

Overview Mortiz Bernstein was born in Koenigsburg, Prussia in 1866 and died in Denver, Colorado in 1918. He came to Walsenburg, Colorado in about 1885 and after working as an empoyee, he bought the store. His wife was Theresa Altschul Bernstein and their daughter was Eva Bernstein Stark. Overview Collection contains (19) digitized photographs of the Bernstein family. Abe Perlmutter was born in Russia in 1893 and died in Denver on January 15, 1985. He came to the United States on his own when he was 15. At age 19 he became a journeyman mason in New York and saved enough money to bring his family to New York. Overview Samuel and Heloise Bernstein moved from New York before their only child, Leonard, was born in Denver. Samuel worked in retail clothing. Leonard worked for Denver and Rio Grande RR for over 50 years. Most of the documents center around Heloise, Samuel and Leonard. Collection contains marriage announcements and certificates, death certificates, military certificates, postcards, photographs, and scrapbooks related to the Bernstein family from 1893 through 1966.

Bessie Wedgle Wedding Dress

Overview

Ellis and Bessie Ruttman Wedgle were married in Denver in 1914 after a brief courtship.The two arrived in the United States around 1912, Ellis emigrating from Poland and Bessie from Russia. In Denver, Ellis worked as a pawnbroker, and Bessie was a seamstress. They lived in Denver's west-side immigrant community and raised four children there. The collection consists of one item, the wedding dress worn by Bessie Wedgle in 1914.

Overview Sam Bloomfield had a fish market in Bloomfield Park (now Rude Park) that catered to the Orthodox Jews in the West Colfax area. In the early 1920s, philanthropists Isadore Rude, Leopold Guldman, and Mary Reed bought the land and deeded it to the City and County of Denver. Overview Charles Rosenbaum was born in Salem, Massachusetts on April 9, 1901 to Russian Jewish immigrants. The family moved to Denver in 1905, where his father died of tuberculosis. Overview Congregation Emanuel, the oldest synagogue in Colorado, was founded in Denver by a group of mostly German Jewish immigrants.
