Abstract Rabbi Earl Stone was born in 1914 in Pennsylvania and attended Syracuse University and was ordained before moving to Chicago to serve as the assistant rabbi at Temple Isaiah Israel. He served with General Patton's staff in World War II and was decorated with the Presidential Unit Citation, six battle stars, three bronze arrows, and the bronze star. Abstract In 1946, Rabbi Herbert Friedman worked with the Allied Jewish Council and the United Jewish Appeal in a campaign to father relief funds for displaced Jews in central and eastern Europe. Friedman traveled to the region in July 1946, and found a mass exodus of Jews headed towards the U.S.-controlled portion of Germany to escape the horrible conditions in Poland.
