Topics covered include family history in Denver (6 generations at time of interview), mechanical engineer but when no work during depression worked as a hosiery salesmen with Jack Levy; married Dorothy Schwayder (daughter of Jesse Schwayder, founder of Samsonite). Abstract

Philip Milstein, a civil engineer in Denver and one of the founders of Downtown Denver, Inc., discusses his experience as a student at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Reflects on his career during the Great Depression, how Denver has grown, changes to the urban landscape, and the future of Denver. Reflects on Denver mayors, the strength of the Ku Klux Klan, the building of the Stapleton Airport, and the creation of Red Rocks.

Scope and Contents

This series contains photographs and papers about the Sigman family and the K. and B. Packing Company in Denver, Colorado. Louis K. Sigman and his sons Sam and Morris Sigman distributed free meat from their company during the depression from 1931-1940. Most of the material consists of digital images that were scanned from two scrapbooks.

Abstract

Dr. William Cody describes his early childhood living near Washington Park and describes childhood activities including ice skating, fishing for crawdads (crayfish), swimming, and playing "cowboys and Indians." Recalls his prom being held at Elitch Gardens. Discusses his memories of the Great Depression and his family losing their home. William Cody also reflects on his career as a dentist in Colorado.
