Abstract

Vytatutas F. Beliajus was born in Lithuania in 1908 and emigrated to the United States in 1923. He became proficient in a wide range of folk dance styles from around the world and traveled around the country teaching folk dance, becoming known as the father of international folk dance in the United States. This collection includes periodicals and books related to folk dancing.

Abstract Vytautas ''Vyts'' Finadar Beliajus sits with folk dance music in front of him at the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society (JCRS). Vyts Beliajus was known as the ''Father of International Folk Dancing in the United States'' and was a patient at the JCRS. The JCRS was a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients that was founded in 1904 by a group of immigrant Jewish working men along with the support of several leading physicians and rabbis in Denver, Colorado.
