Abstract

Byron Akers, the owner of the Colorado Car Museum and the Ghost Town in Colorado Springs, reflects on his long time obsession with automobiles. Akers was born in Denver and moved to Colorado Springs and reflects on the introduction of the car. Recalls the transition from horse and buggy carriages to automobiles, the first automobile trip up Pikes Peak, and the cars he owns, including the steamer Locomobile.

Charles Fish for Colorado Reflections

Charles Fish moved to Colorado in 1937 and worked in Blackhawk and Central City at the Bobtail tunnel on the Mammoth vein and at mines in Idaho Springs. Fish reflects on his career as a gold miner and recalls working conditions, pay, and the dangers of mining. Discusses his involvement in the Boy Scouts, his time serving in World War II, and his move to Colorado Springs.
