Abstract

Four adults and twenty-two children on the steps of the Sons of Israel Synagogue. Congregation Sons of Israel was organized in 1903. Pictured here are members of the Hebrew School with their teachers. Standing second from the left is May Myers and third from left is May Margaret Golin. Fourth from left on first row is Rosalie June Golin (Kobey). Second row, left is Loretta Edith Golin (Gass) and third from left is Augusta Gertrude Golin (Meyer).

Abstract

Herr Erich Arndt, gym teacher, and Herr Baron, home room teacher, at Wilsnacker Strasse Jewish School in Berlin, Germany. The Jewish community in Berlin established the school in an abandoned apartment building on Wilsnacker Strasse after a 1937 decree that forbid Jewish children to attend German schools. The Wilsnacker Strasse school was the last Jewish school in Berlin.

A teacher looks on as two school boys arrange chairs for their class photograph [B333.01.0002.0001.00009] in the courtyard of the Wilsnacker Strasse Jewish School in Berlin, Germany. The Jewish community in Berlin established the school in an abandoned apartment building on Wilsnacker Strasse after a 1937 decree that forbid Jewish children to attend German schools. The Wilsnacker Strasse school was the last Jewish school in Berlin.
