Abstract

Joseph Shapiro owned the Shapiro Hebrew Book Store at 3188 W. Colfax Avenue in Denver, Colorado. The collection contains three copies of "Passover" by Dr. A. Th. Phillips. The books are each stamped: "Joseph Shapiro Hebrew book Store, 3188 W. Colfax Ave.-Al. 5840 Denver 4, Colorado."

Abstract

John Lake explains that he wanted to start a bookstore in the University Park area of Denver, Colorado, so he purchased the Varsity Eight Ball Club, a pool hall, in 1977. He discusses transforming the business into the Bloomsbury Bookstore over a four year period and he also talks about the types of books that were popular at the store. Lake also discusses the University of Denver's influence on businesses and the University Park neighborhood.

Mrs. Noonan discusses changes that have taken place in the University Park area of Denver, Colorado, since her move to the area in 1940 including housing development and transportation services. Noonan mentions that her children, a boy and a girl, attended University Park Elementary School and that she was active in the University Park Parent Teacher Association, serving as the secretary and the president of the association.
