Abstract Solomon Nunez Carvalho (1815-1897) was the photographer for John C. Fremont's famous expedition to Colorado from 1853-54. Carvalho was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and was living in Baltimore, Maryland, when Fremont asked him to be the world's first expedition photographer.
