Abstract

Abe Winograd is sitting with others on a lawn in Israel. He is sitting at the left in a group of five people. Abraham Winograd was born in Poland in 1885, coming to the United States in 1909, and moving to Greeley, Colorado in 1916. He was a junk dealer, peddler, and founder of Winograd Poultry. He aslo was a founder of Beth Israel Congregation in Greeley.

Abstract Most of Greeley's early Jews were Orthodox and services were held in private homes until 1925 when Beth Israel Congregation was formed in Greeley, Colorado and houses were rented for services. In 1952 Beth Israel had it's first synagogue when it purchased a former church in 1952 and incorporated in June 1953. Among the leaders of the Congregation were members of the Winograd family. Abstract Abraham Winograd immigrated to the United State in 1909. He had been born in Biala, Poland in 1889 and died in Denver in 1971. His future wife, Matilda Pinsky had come earlier with her parents and brother from Lithuania. The couple had two children, Eleanor, born in Denver in 1916 and died in Greeley in 2007, and Harold Winograd, born in Denver in 1921 and died in Greeley in 1971.
