Abstract
In September 1987, Chancellor Dwight Smith announced the appointment of Roy V. Wood as the first Provost in the history of the University. The new position united responsibility for the formulation and implementation of academic and budgetary policies. In 1989, Dr. William Zaranka became Provost, a position he held until 2001.
