Abstract

One of 12 exhibit display panels from the exhibit "Blazing the Trail: Denver's Jewish Pioneers." Panel titled "Jewish Communities Outside of Denver" and includes Temple Aaron in Trinidad, Congregation Sons of Israel in Colorado Springs, Bernstein family of Walensberg, Max Stein of Pueblo, Hebrew Progressive Club of Greely, and the Kobey family in Aspen.

Abstract

Sons of Israel Association first organized in Colorado Springs in 1903 and established a cemetery. By 1911, they acquired their first building. The organization went through many changes and struggles over years but combined with another temple to become Temple Shalom in 1971. Collection contains framed drawings of Jewish Prophets from the Sons of Israel Congregation. from 1930 through 1940.

Pictured here are members of the Hebrew School with their teachers. Standing second from the left is May Myers and third from left is May Margaret Golin. Fourth from left on first row is Rosalie June Golin (Kobey). Second row, left is Loretta Edith Golin (Gass) and third from left is Augusta Gertrude Golin (Meyer).

Abstract Box contains framed print of the prophets from the Sons of Israel in Colorado Springs. Sepia tone print is of the Frieze of the Prophets, a mural done by John Singer Sargent for the Boston Public Library. Print is in three parts, each part a different wall in the original mural.
