Abstract

A group of men stand on the wood sidewalk in front of a row of buildings. A sign reads, "Gotthelf & Mayer Bank, Dry Goods and Clothing, Groceries" and other signs read, "Saguache County Bank", "Gotthelf & Mayer" and "Ruby Saloon". Leopold Mayer began as a shoe and boot merchant.

Abstract Julius Basinski authorted 22 pages of reminisences about his life as a merchant in the Montana mining fields. Born in 1844 in Germany, Basinski emigrated in 1866 and dealt in cigars, candy, butter, eggs, calico, and other provisions in various Montana communities, iincluding Helena, Bozeman, and Miles City in the Yellowstone Valley. University of Denver Chancellor Ross Pritchard and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Walter Koch present the Community Service Award to banker Roger Knight Jr. at Founders Day 1981 while Evans Award recipient, Colorado Governor John Love appluads.
