Abstract

Harry Pells was Jewish businessman in Denver, CO. He owned and operated an insurance agency and was an active marine. Harry Pells enlisted in the Army in both WWI and WWII. He was later involved in veterans’ organizations, such as the Jewish War Veterans and the American Legion where he organized a toy drive that sent over 50,000 toys to Europe. Collection contains personal papers, news clippings, pamphlets and, a newsletter related to Harry Pells from 1918 through 1986.

Abstract

Sidney Israelski (1897-1986) was in the United States Army in both World War I and World War II. After his brief service in World War II, he went to work in the defense industry at Winter-Weiss Company in Denver, Colorado, where he worked until he retired. This collection contains photographs, documents, and World War I medals and dog tags belonging to Israelski. This collection shows the experience of a Jewish World War I soldier.

Abstract Dr. Charles Spivak was born in Russia in 1861 and died in Denver, Colorado in 1927. He arrived in New York City in 1882 and graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1893, Charles Spivak married Jennie Charsky and they had three children: David, Deena, and Ruth. Jennie Charsky was born in Russia in 1871 and briefly studied law at Cornell before graduating from the University of Denver. Because of Jennie's poor health the Spivaks moved to Denver in 1886.
