Abstract

Abraham Sosne (Sosny/Sosna) was born in Russia and moved to the United States in the mid 1880s. He married Rachel Sosne, had several children, and passed away in Denver in 1949. The family owned Capitol Wet Wash Laundry on West Colfax in Denver.

Abstract Adolf Goldhammer was born 1847 in Hungary and immigrated to Denver, Colorado in 1885 with his wife Betta and sons Abe and Jacob. He operated a liquor store and saloon hall that was often used as a meeting place for the Jewish community to hold meetings, plays and other cultural events. Bessie Wedgle Wedding Dress

Abstract

Ellis and Bessie Ruttman Wedgle were married in Denver in 1914 after a brief courtship.The two arrived in the United States around 1912, Ellis emigrating from Poland and Bessie from Russia. In Denver, Ellis worked as a pawnbroker, and Bessie was a seamstress. They lived in Denver's west-side immigrant community and raised four children there. The collection consists of one item, the wedding dress worn by Bessie Wedgle in 1914.

Abstract

Hyman Z. Salomon was born in 1832 in Posen, Prussia. He moved to what was then the city of Auraria, now Denver, in 1859 and is claimed to be the first Jewish settler in Colorado. He married Cecilia Joel and the couple had two daughters. Hyman originally set up as a mercantile man but he was also involved with the Capitol Hydraulic Company, the Platte River Ditch Company, and several other businesses in Denver along with his brother, Fred Z. Salomon. Hyman passed away on November 21, 1897.

Abstract Marianne Pisko Hausmann (1880-1969) was born in Vienna, Austria and studied at the Academy of the Austrian Museum of Art and Industry in Vienna. She moved to Denver in 1939 to join her daughter Margaret Grieg, an ophthamologist who had settled in Denver in 1938.
