Abstract
Dorothy (Dottie) Bernheim Shipman was born in Pueblo, CO in 1918 to Isadore Bernheim and Edith Weil Bernheim David. She was the great-grandaughter of Clara Goldsmith Weil: the first Jewish baby girl born in Colorado. She received her BFA from the University of Denver, married and divoced Clifford Stanely Shipman and moved from Denver to Texas, California, and finally Boise, ID. Evelyn Rosenthal Stone was born in 1910. She graduated from the University of Denver in 1955 with her BA and again in 1958 with her MA, both in Education. She was a member of Delta Kappa gamma sorority and was one of the first women to be inducted into the Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity. in 1984 she was presented by the Minoru Yasui Community Volunteer Award for her extensive volunteer work with schools, the University, various medical centers, and the Salvation Army, among others. The Pioneer Leadership Program began at the University of Denver in 1995. It is a program that strives to instill leadership skills into the 88 undergraduate students admitted to the program each year. During their careers at the university, these students persue minors in leadership and live in the PLP living and learning community housing.
