Abstract Deborah Howard is an Associate Professor and Head of Painting Program at the University of Denver. After a discussion on racial stereotypes and aging in a Figure Painting course Howard was teaching, she began to develop her Portraits of Child Holocaust Survivors project and settled on drawing as the media for the project. Fred Veston Paintings

Abstract Fred Veston (1899-1980) was born in Kraków, Austria-Hungary (now Poland) and survived the Holocaust by fleeing east, until reaching Lemberg (now Lviv, Ukraine). Seeing it was no better than Kraków. He then made his way to south western Poland and the Tatra Mountains, where Polish partisan groups continued to fight the German forces. Abstract Ernst Heinrich Loewenstein [Henry Lowenstein] was born in Berlin, Germany in 1925 to a Jewish father and a non-Jewish mother. To escape Nazi brutality, he was sent on the Kindertransport to England in 1939. Their daughter Clara Rosen married Joseph Rosen and they had four children including Selma Rosen who married Osi Sladek.
