This box contains four (4) paintings by Fred Veston. They are titled, "The Burning of Cracow [sic]"; "The Blessing of the Moon"; "Nine Jewish Faces"; and, "Two Musicians-Two Dancers." Three (3) of the paintings are oil on canvas (Burning of Cracow, Blessing of the Moon, and Two Musicians-Two Dancers). The fourth painting, Nine Jewish Faces, is a black ink watercolor.

Encaustic painting on canvas in reds, oranges, golds, blues and purples surrounded by an ash wood frame. Canvas has image of Susan Bendor, image is a photocopy of Deborah Howard’s print, B398.01.00016. Wax makes surface 3-dimensional and has mold of a lightbulb that hangs over Susan. Designs behind wax surface look like wallpaper with a curtain across the top.

A certificate from Opfer des Faschismus.--Abteilung Opfer der Nürnberger Gesetzgebung, the City of Berlin Department of Social Welfare, certifying Max Loewenstein as a victim of the Nuremberg Laws. Includes Max's birth date and address. Stamped with the Department of Social Welfare seal and signed by the magistrate of Berlin.

Abstract

A copy of Dr. Arthur Ernst Bätge and Therese Sophie Agathe Berg's, Maria's parents, marriage certificate from the Estonian vital statistics archive. The copy was produced on September 12, 1933 in Tallin, Estonia and has two 25 cent stamps attached at bottom. The form is filled out by hand in ink. This was one form produced by Maria's to the prove her non-Jewish heritage.
