Emanuel Herskovitz, 1977

Abstract

Born in 1870 in Hungary, and trained as a baker, Herskovitz moved to Denver in 1889, married Fanny Freishman (governess to the daughters of Baby Doe Tabor), founded Eastern Bakery, worked for Star Bread Company, helped organize the first bakers union, and opened Uncle Sam's Grill, a tavern. He died in 1977.

This folder is the contents of a binder labeled ''Figures''. Feldman used this notebook to record his research and opinions on major figures and how they related to the idea of myth. Each section on an individual figure included a section that described ''his position in a nutshell,'' a primary bibliography of the individual's works regarding myth, a secondary bibliography that also covered myth, critiques by others, and questions that Feldman had.

The notebook is filled, largely, with lists of authors that Burton would potentially be referencing. Alongside the notebook are a stack of index cards with notes concerning the concepts the authors discussed. The folder also contains some loose sheets of paper and newspaper clippings that had been in the notebook.
