Abstract Elsie W. Adams was born in Denver and graduated from East High in 1906. That year she became the family breadwinner and she put off her plans to attend the University of Denver and became a teacher. In 1912, she was hired by the Denver public school system and while teaching received her B.A. and M.A in education from the University of Denver.
