Abstract

Rev. Frank Weimberg was a Denver cantor, mohel, and shochet. He was born in Poland in 1866 and lived for 22 years in Denver before his death in 1930. His widow, Marion, lived in Denver for nearly 40 years and was one of the founders of Beth Israel Hospital and Old Folks Home. She died in 1943.

Abstract Maurice Rose was born in 1899 in Middletown, CT to Rabbi Samuel and Katy Rose. The family moved to Denver, Colorado in 1902 when Maurice was three. After graduation from highschool, Maurice Rose enlisted in the United States army when he was 15 and fought under General Pershing. He stayed in the army and attended various military schools. The collection contains three (3) series: photographs, clippings, and material culture. The photographs include digital copies of a portrait photograph of George G. Klein and two photographs of grave. The clippings include newspaper articles about the murder of police detective George Klein in 1919. The material culture includes a certificate recognizing George Klein for his service with the related dedication event flier, and a Denver Police Museum coin.

Henry J. Schwartz Scrapbook

Abstract

Henry J. Schwartz was born in Russia and came to New York with his parents. He settled in Denver in 1895 and married Mollie K. Kohn in 1898. Henry Schwartz was an original member of the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society board of directors and served as president and vice president of the JCRS. He was also a member of the Town Club. Much of the scrapbook has clipplings on the JCRS, but also on politics, Temple Emanuel, and obituaries for Dr. Philip Hillkowitz.

Abstract

Rabbi Hillkowitz emigrated to Cincinnati from Lithuania to be a rabbi and tutor, moving to Denver around 1892. His son, Dr. Philip Hilkowitz, was a noted Denver pathologist, active in various medical societies. He joined Dr. Spivak as a founder of the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society and served as its president. His father, Rabbi Hillkowitz, suggested the Talmudic motto of the JCRS.
