Abstract

Harry "Herschl" Cook (1865-1911) and Ida "Hinda" Cook (1868-1934) left their shtetl Kamin Koshirsky in Poland for the United States in 1892. The couple and their four children settled in Denver on the advice of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, and joine the West Colfax community. The family opened a bathouse called Cook's Baths. The Cook Family Reunion was held July 4-6, 2003, in Denver, Colorado.

Abstract Russian Jewish immigrants Harry and Ida Cook journeyed to the American West in the early 1890s. They later opened Cook's Russian Baths in Denver. It served both as a mikvah (ritual bath) operated at night for women by Ida and during the day as a popular stean open to the public, complete with catered Kosher meals. Abstract

Interior of the Cooperative Store on the grounds of the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society (JCRS). The store was located in the Business Office. The JCRS was a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients that was founded in 1904 by a group of immigrant Jewish workingmen along with the support of several leading physicians and rabbis in Denver, Colorado. It was located on West Colfax Avenue just outside Denver.
