Abstract This article describes the community of Eastern European Jews who left failed agricultural colonies iin Cotopaxi and Atwood, Colorado, to join other recently arrived Jews along West Denver's lower Colfax Avenue. At first impoverished and struggling, they took advantage of opportunities to educate their children, buy a house, give tzedakah, and live traditional Jewish lives.
