Henri and Justine Mook (Moongue)

Abstract

Born in Alsace, Henri Mook opened a butcher shop in Denver in 1881. He later bought and sold cattle in the stockyards, and he had one of the early seats on the Livestock Exchange. Justine Mook was active in the "Ladies' Shroud Society, which made shrouds for TB victims and helped the poor. The Shroud Society also helped establish Mt. Nebo Cemetery.

Abstract

Born in 1844, and descended from Hungarian and Galician families, Weinberger emigrated to the U.S. in 1888, folowing several years of teaching, brewery management, cattle trading and farming. In Denver he worked as a clerk and grocer, residing on Market Street. Herman and his wife Nettie were founders of B.M. H. Synagogue. A stained glass window was created in their honor at B.M. H. in 1953, by their children.

Philip Hornbein was a Colorado trial lawyer, a leader in the fight against the Ku Klux Klan, and chairman of Colorado's Democratic Party during the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Abstract Golda Mabovitz Meir lived with her sister Shayna, brother-in-law Sam Kornfeld, and niece Judith Korngold Bauman in 1913-1914. The Korngolds lived in a brick duplex at 1606-08 Julian Street. In 1987, the home was in danger of being demolished in 1987, but was restored and moved to Auraria campus in 1988.
