Sophie Peterman Wedding Dress

Abstract

Sophie Miller Peterman was born in 1900 in Denver, Colorado. She was the daughter of Lithuanian immigrants Anna and Robert Lazar Miller, who were pioneers of Denver's Jewish community. In about 1920, Sophie Miller married Joseph (Joe) Peterman, and they had a daughter named Norma. Sophie Peterman died in Denver in 1986. The collection consists of one ivory satin wedding gown worn by Sophie Peterman on her wedding day.

Abstract

This sub-series contains the clothing items from both Bert Byron and Dolly Grey. Grey's clothing items include her furt coat and matching muff, two pairs of gloves, a pearl collar, and fur collars. Byron's clothing items include a black three piece suit and a black cape.

Abstract A tan velveteen formal length dress hand-stitched together. This view shows the front of the dress. There are layers of gold sequins and gold beads in a curved/arched design. The front neck velvet drape has a round velvet covered weight that hangs on the inside of the gown to keep the drape in place. The dress has a plunging back. Abstract A wedding gown with a waist drape. The bodice has three layers: bottom layer consists of ornate copper threads on ivory satin fabric (originally part of another garment made approximately ten years earlier); the middle layer is silk, and the top layer is silk jacquard. From the waist down, there are two layers: bottom layer is a fine thin silk underlay and the top layer is an off-white silk jacquard overdress. Abstract

A woman's black faille make-up case with belt loop and square make-up compact. A triangular cutout in the center top of the case allows visibility of a rhinestone ornament on the make-up compact that fits inside. This view shows the front of the make-up case and the rhinestone ornament on the make-up compact. Originally belonged to Irene Stein.
