Dry powder inhalers were used in the 1940s, primarily for aerosolizing penicillin. Dr. Arthur L. Esserman (born 1898) was an intern at Children's Hospital in Denver from 1924 to 1926 and practiced pediatric medicine from 1926 until his death in 1952.
