Biography

The Cohen family were one of the first settlers of the town of Aspen, Colorado. Elias Cohen moved there by 1891 and managed David Hyman's mining properties.

Abstract

Composite of the Elias Cohen family of Aspen including a formal portrait of Elias Cohen (bottom left); a formal portrait of his wife and two daughters (bottom right); and formal portraits of his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weinberg (top). Elias Cohen was a resident of Aspen by 1891, a mine supervisor in, and manager of David Hyman's properties. It was Cohen who suggested the use of deep-sea divers to repair broken mine-pump shafts.
